Studio 8

An affordable new studio space has just opened in Calgary. It’s run by Jeremy Fokkens who is a talented local portrait and advertising photographer, not to mention a genuinely nice guy who we love working with. We had the opportunity to give the space a test drive for our latest Nikon D780 review during the recent cold snap.

Studio 8 is easy to access from both central Calgary and Deerfoot Trail. It sits at 516 Moraine Road, just north-east of Memorial Drive. It features a 1000 sq. ft industrial space, 16-foot ceilings, two east-facing large bay doors, hair & makeup station, changing room, Wi-Fi, parking, and a half-ton movable I-beam to hang gear and objects from that spans the entire space.

It was an extremely cold day in the city at -27C when we used the studio, but it stayed nice and toasty for us and our hired talent. When Anna the dancer arrived she loved the ample space in the private changing room which includes a wardrobe rack. We also had access to two makeup stations with nice lighting.

We brought our own LED lights and strobes for our camera tests. Conveniently, the studio was equipped with c-stands, a background kit, and several rolls of coloured seamless backdrop paper.

It was no surprise that our experience at Studio 8 was warm and inviting. Jeremy is that kind of guy and his personality and passion are felt in the walls of this new space he has created. All you have to do is book some time there and see it for yourself.
