The application contest for the 2019 World Press Photo Contest is quickly approaching.

The 2019 World Press Photo Contest honours the best single exposure images that contribute to the world of visual journalism. Each image will be judged anonymously by a jury in terms of their accurate, fair, and visually compelling insights on the world around us.

Applicants must register by January 3, 2019. Submissions close on January 8, 2019.

Submissions to the World Press Digital Storytelling Contest also close on January 8, which honours the best visual journalism forms enabled by the ever-changing digital technologies available.

Additionally, World Press Photo has added three new awards this year: ‘World Press Photo Story of the Year,’ ‘World Press Photo Interactive of the Year’ and ‘World Press Photo Online Video of the Year.’ The winners of each of these three awards, as well as the ‘World Press Photo of the Year,’ will receive €10,000 each (approximately $15,400 CAD).

Winners will be announced April 11, 2019 in Amsterdam at the Awards Show, which takes place right before the World Press Photo Festival. The Festival runs from April 11-13, 2019, in Amsterdam.
