Wrap-up: The Sony Stampede Experience Workshop

At The Camera Store, we offer a wide range of workshops, including some that give access to an exceptionally high level of instruction and unique experiences. This summer, we were very pleased to host internationally acclaimed photographer, William Albert Allard, as instructor for a very special Sony Experience workshop at the Calgary Stampede this year.
In addition to ample opportunity to photography the midway and around the grounds, the gracious hospitality shown by the Stampede Committee led us into the chuckwagon barns, under the Grandstand Stage, and into the North Enclosure to photography the rodeo. These opportunities were greatly valued by all in attendance, as many people do not get the chance to see some of the more intimate, behind-the-scenes view of the Stampede.
We were fortunate to have Sony Canada on hand for the workshop as well, who provided each attendee with a camera and lens to use for the duration of our day on the grounds and were on-site to provide instruction and support with the gear.
Perhaps the most valuable part of the workshop was the final critique, where each student had a selection of images they had shot critiqued by Allard. With a lifelong career in colour photography and 50 years on staff with National Geographic, Allard’s insight gave students constructive feedback on what makes their images work, and how to improve.
We are also very excited to welcome Bill Allard back to Calgary, along with another highly acclaimed photographer, Vincent J Musi, for an entertaining evening of master photography talks. This will be a fantastic evening to close our F22 Anniversary celebrations, with inspiring talks from both photographers, who have works published in such credits as National Geographic, Time, and Newsweek. The event runs at the Globe Cinema on Saturday, August 25. Tickets are available for $49.95.
We’re happy to share a selection of images from our workshop attendees. A final thank-you to all who attended; to the Calgary Stampede for providing such excellent photo opportunities; to Sony for their knowledge, equipment and support; and Bill Allard for his valued time and instruction.
