The Pentax K-1, and the top 10 reasons why you should own one.

  By Evelyn Drake

It is no secret that we’ve been long-time fans of Pentax cameras for their durability and build quality. They’ve handled everything we have put them through better than any other line of cameras. But, they had a hard time competing against Canon and Nikon, since they did not offer a Full Frame DSLR… Until now!

Pentax offers their first Full Frame Digital SLR with an incredible roster of features including the ability to capture great images in hostile environments too dangerous for most cameras.

K-1 Sensor

Introducing the Pentax K-1 and the top 10 reasons why you should own one.

1. Incredible Image Quality
Not only is the K-1 sensor rated at an astounding 36.4 Megapixels. But, when shooting in the Pixel Shift mode, the processor combines 4 images to create an ultra-detailed image. Perfect for creating massive prints.

2. Amazing lens availability.
The K-1 is compatible with any K-Mount lenses from the classics to their contemporary selection. And, it is also compatible with all Pentax 645 Medium Format lenses and 6×7 Medium Format lenses using optional adapters.

Dustproof3. Even more Weather Proof than you are.
Need to shoot where it’s cold and wet? You’ll need a jacket before the K-1 will. It is weather and dust sealed in 87 places plus is cold rated to -10°C.

4. Keep track of where you are, or where you have been.
Built-in GPS and Digital Compass. You’ll not only know where you are but where your photos were taken.

5. Amazing star photography.
The K-1 includes an Astrotracer mode that will allow you to capture stunning photos of the night sky. This system obtains location data and camera position to calculate movement of stars in the sky. The sensor is then synced with the earth’s movement to capture sharp star field photos with exposures up to five minutes long.

6. Neck friendly.
The 3.2″ cross-tilt LCD monitor can tilt upward 90°, down 44°, and left and right 35° for numerous viewing positions so you don’t have to be a yogi to compose a great photo while keeping the screen on the optical axis of the lens for better subject tracking.

7. Lowlight ready.
Lowlight capable with ISO up to 204,800. Plus the in-body 5 axis shake reduction provides 5 stops of compensation and works with any lens you mount on the camera.

Supportive Shooting Functions
8. Fully Featured Video Capture
The K-1 has full HD 1080p video at up to 30 fps in either full-frame or APS-C crop modes and you can bolster audio quality by using the headphone and mic jacks. It even includes focus peaking in video mode which will assist with manual focusing. Additionally, the K-1 is NTSC/PAL switchable.

9. Wireless for convenience and control.
The K-1 has built-in wi-fi both for transferring images and remote control of the camera with your Android or iOS mobile device.

10. Big adventures require big storage.
The K-1 has dual memory card slots which can fit two SDXC UHS-1 cards that can be configured for backup, splitting storage of JPEGs and RAW files, or overflow when card 1 is filled.
