Tamron Announces new 17-28mm f2.8 Lens for Full Frame Sony E-mount

Tamron has announced a new lens: the 17-28mm F2.8 Di III RXD (Model A046). This has been designed as a sister lens to the very popular 28-75mm F2.8 that was released last year, and is compatible with Sony E-mount cameras (both crop and full frame).
The lens features 9 aperture blades and is constructed with 13 elements in 11 groups. The RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) stepping motor unit provides fast and accurate autofocus with minimal noise. The lens is also compatible with current Sony autofocus features such as Hybrid AF and Eye-AF. Minimum focus distance is 0.19m at 17mm, and 0.26mm at 28mm. The lens is constructed as moisture resistant, and the front element is coated with a hydrophobic fluorine coating to repel water and fingerprints.
When paired with the 28-75mm, both lenses cover a wide to medium telephoto range consistently at F2.8, for a total weight of 907g, just over two pounds. This provides a great option for those looking to operate with a more travel-friendly or portable kit. Both lenses also have a 67mm filter thread, making filter use convenient without the need for different sized filters or step-up rings.
The Tamron 17-28mm F2.8 lens is available for preorder now at a price of $1349.99 and is expected to begin shipping later this summer.
