Last year, the Banff Mountain Film & Book Festival launched a new Youth Adventure Photo Workshop that we, in partnership with Nikon, were proud to sponsor. This weekend workshop gave 13 youths the opportunity to learn the basics of photography, and shoot around the gorgeous Banff landscape under the instruction of photographer Jeremiah Marsh. At the end, each student chose one photo, which were then printed and exhibited at the Banff Public Library this past April.

Ontario-based photographer Steve Biro captured a remarkably symmetrical image of a bald eagle and it’s reflection that went viral. He was photographing at the Canadian Raptor Conservancy in Vittoria, Ontario from the edge of a pond where the eagle, named Bruce, was nearby.
The annual Canadian Camera Conference is in Calgary July 16-18, 2019. You do not want to miss this special event that is held every year in cities across Canada.
There will be 14 talented and engaging presentations on portraiture, landscape and wildlife photography, astrophotography and much more.
We are particularly excited about this all-Canadian based lineup of speakers, many of who are local photography heroes from Calgary.

The Camera Store is proud to support the Eye for the Wild fundraising photography contest by providing the first place prize. This is Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society’s second annual Eye for the Wild photography contest in which photography enthusiasts are encouraged to submit their best-untouched photos of native Southern Albertan wildlife in their native habitat. With over 400 species of wildlife that call Calgary home, natural habitats include yards, parks and other city spaces!
The contest will accept online photo submissions from February 1 – March 31, 2019 for a small submission fee of $10 per entry. Photos must be in digital form and of Southern Alberta wildlife in their native habitat. CWRS has assembled a judging panel comprised of Ann Mansolino (Photographer & Associate Professor in Photography at ACAD), Darryl MacDonald (Professional Photographer at Clear Blue Photo), Evan Buchanan (Photojournalism student at SAIT), Kris Brown-Schoepp (Owner of the Wild Bird Store) and Andrea Hunt (Executive Director at CWRS).
