Sony Announces New Lens: FE 135mm f1.8 GM

  By Kaitlyn Kerr

Sony has announced a new lens for their G-master lineup, the FE 135mm f1.8 GM. The new lens is Sony’s 49th E-mount lens overall, and is due to begin shipping at the end of April for $2600.00.

Sony continues to provide a high quality of optics in their premium G-master lineup, using XA (extreme aspherical) and Super ED (extra-low dispersion) elements in this lens, designed to suppress aberrations, maximize resolution across the frame, and provide smooth out-of-focus bokeh rendering. An 11-bladed circular aperture aids in this as well. The 135mm will also feature dual autofocus groups in a floating focus arrangement, which equates to a minimum focus distance of 0.7m (70 cm). The lens will also feature both a focus ring and aperture ring for easy control, a focus limiter, and a customizable focus hold button.

Sony has also announced a new line of filters with higher quality optics designed for use with the G-master lineup in order to minimize any effect on sharpness and resolution. The new circular polarizers are made with a Zeiss T* coating and a slim profile.

The lens is available for preorder now and is expected to begin shipping later this spring.
