Sigma Announces 11 Lenses, Adapter for L-mount

  By Kaitlyn Kerr

Sigma has introduced eleven lenses for the L-mount on the upcoming Panasonic S1 and S1R cameras. While pricing and availability remains to be determined, eleven Art-series lenses from 14mm to 135mm have been announced. Sigma has also announced an MC-21 lens adapter for the L-mount as well.

The lenses are:

  • 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art
  • 20mm F1.4 DG HSM Art
  • 24mm F1.4 DG HSM ARt
  • 28mm F1.4 DG HSM Art
  • 35mm F1.4 DG HSM Art
  • 40mm F1.4 DG HSM Art
  • 50mm F1.4 DG HSM Art
  • 70mm F2.8 DG Macro HSM Art
  • 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art
  • 105mm F1.4 DG HSM Art
  • 135mm F1.8 DG HSM Art

Sigma has also announced that their mount conversion service will be available for the L-mount. This service allows existing owners of Sigma lenses to have the mount converted should they choose to switch camera systems. (Some compatibility restrictions may apply – be sure to check their website for full details.)

The MC-21 adapter will work similarly to the existing MC-11 adapter, and allow owners of Sigma’s S-mount or Canon’s EF-mount Sigma lenses to use them with full compatibility on L-mount series cameras. Pricing and availability has not been announced at this time.

The L-mount alliance was announced at Photokina this past year as a collaboration between Leica, Sigma, and Panasonic, which uses Leica’s existing mount (present in their S-series cameras). Panasonic’s new full frame mirrorless lineup will utilize the mount in their S1 and S1R cameras, expected out later this spring.
