- Heat Management with New Forced Cooling System.
Reliability is key for video content creation. Nothing is worse than a camera overheating during an important shoot, or being limited on what formats you can use reliably. Panasonic’s new Forced Cooling system provides better heat management so that video content creators can take advantage of long-form recording opportunities, even in some of the most demanding formats such as 4K 120p or 5.7K 30p.
- 7.5 Stops of In-Body Image Stabilization
Shoot smooth footage handheld with Panasonic’s 5-axis Dual I.S. 2 system that compensates for up to 7.5 stops of camera shake. This will get you pretty darn close to gimbal-balanced footage without the need for a gimbal.
- Durable and Refined Body Design
The magnesium-alloy body is weather-sealed and freeze resistant. It features a rear 3.0″ LCD with a free-angle swivel design. It includes a cable lock in the box for slick cable management, and the LCD will not interfere with the side ports. The dual memory card slots allow for: one CFexpress Type B slot for high-bitrate recording and one UHS-II SD slot. We also love that it still incorporates a full-size HDMI, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports, as well as a 3.5mm microphone and headphone jack.
- Audio Flexibility with 4-channel recording.
The GH6 features 4 channel audio recording. We are thrilled that we can use the existing Panasonic XLR1 adapter for 2 XLR inputs, and just plug a microphone (or two, with a stereo splitter) into the camera port and record up to 4 tracks of audio.
- Punch-In Focus while Recording & other Video Assist Tools
Panasonic now allows you to check focus while recording on the GH6. This gives video-content creators extra confidence and control while shooting. Another subtle but helpful tool is the added tally lamp on the front of the camera. It’s amazing how much a little red light that turns on while recording can ease stress during a video shoot. Panasonic has maintained all of the excellent video assist tools that we have come to love on the previous GH models including waveforms, vectorscopes, focus peaking, and more.
It is clear why video content creators are gitty with anticipation for this new release. Photographers can also get excited about the upgrade with features such as the 100mp handheld high-resolution mode. This option provides flexibility for professional-level multi-media use. Overall, the dynamic range, skin tones and overall quality for still photography have seen an improvement over the previous GH series cameras.
