Independent Study’s vision is to promote art book culture and appreciation in the city of Calgary and in Alberta featuring independent book sellers, publishers, and artists. This is not a traditional art book fair. Independent Study is a reading room (complete with couch and coffee table) with some of the best art and photo books from artists, galleries, and bookstores in Alberta there for purchase and browsing.

The concept was founded by Elyse Bouvier, an artist and documentary photographer based in Calgary with a deep love of books (photo books in particular), rural Alberta, and Calgary arts.

Elyse invited The Camera Store to showcase a few titles from our photography book collection curated by John Veldhoen at the Independent Study reading room. The reading room will be held at Market Collective on September 15-17th 1390 17th AVE SE in Inglewood.
