Greg Gerla – In An Instant: Iconogoraphs

As part of Exposure 2019, Alberta’s Photography Festival, photographer Greg Gerla is proud to present “In An Instant: Iconographs”. This series, drawing on the inspiration and aesthetic of Byzantine and Eastern European religious iconography, is a mixed media exhibition with Fujifilm Instax and Polaroid prints that have been manipulated with the use of paints, inks, and gold or silver leaf.
“Traditional religious iconography connects the viewer to a doctrine and offers characters as the personification of a higher ideal. These figure studies present the feminine persona as spiritual entities conferred with the attributes of sainthood – loving, brave, humble, contemplative and compassionate.”
Greg Gerla is a Calgary-based commercial and fine art photographer whose work is characterized by an attention to craft and style. He can be found on Instagram and Twitter.
The opening reception is Friday, February 1st at the Artpoint Gallery & Studio from 5:00PM-9:00PM, by invitation only. The gallery is open from 1-5PM on Thursdays and Fridays, and 11AM-5PM on Saturdays. The exhibition runs from February 1-23, 2019.
