Fujifilm Announces New Lenses: XF 16-80mm F4 Zoom and GF 50mm F3.5 Compact Prime

  By Kaitlyn Kerr

Fujifilm has announced two new lenses: the XF 16-80mm F4 R OIS WR for their X-system, and the GF 50mm F3.5 R LM WR for their medium format GFX system.

The XF 16-80mm F4 is a constant aperture zoom lens that will be a great asset for the travel photographer or others who don’t want to carry around a lot of lenses to give themselves a lot of options. Weighing less than a pound (440g), with weather sealing and up to six stops of stabilization, the lens is a versatile option in a small, compact package. It features 16 elements in 12 groups and has a minimum focus distance of 0.35m.

The GF 50mm F 3.5 R LM WR is another compact option, but for Fuji’s medium format GFX line (of which the GFX-100 was released earlier this year). Equivalent to a 40mm in full-frame terms, the lens is constructed with 9 elements in 6 groups and weighs 335g (approximately 0.73 pounds). It uses a fast and quiet linear focus motor and is built to minimize spherical aberrations and barrel distortion.

Both lenses are available for preorder and expected to begin shipping at the end of September. The XF 16-80mm F4 R OIS WR is priced at $1049.99 and the GF 50mm F3.5 R LM WR is priced at $1299.99
