Socality and Canon Creator Lab are hosting two free workshops in the next week! Both are hosted by filmmaker RJ Bruni, with the first one on Saturday, April 11th at 12:00 PM PST, and the second one on Wednesday, April 15th at 6:00 PM PST where he will cover Filming and Editing!

Socality x Canon Creator Lab: Basics of Filmmaking with RJ Bruni – Filming

Join us on Saturday, April 11th for an online Socality x Canon Creator Lab workshop with instruction from documentary filmmaker and director RJ Bruni(@rjbruni) as he instructs the first of two live online workshops focused on teaching the basics of filmmaking with an emphasis on Filming in Session I and Editing in Session II.

This first session will cover themes including:

  • Setting up your camera – understanding and choosing your gear, frame rates and settings
  • Leaning into your limitations
  • Choosing your story, props, actors / subjects
  • Shooting with intentionality
  • How to best utilize slow motion vs. real time
  • Using stabilization and hand-held techniques
  • Q&A Session
  • & more

This workshop will include a combination of live teaching from RJ and Q&A portion.

Socality x Canon Creator Lab: Basics of Filmmaking with RJ Bruni – Editing

Join us on Wednesday, April 15th for an online Socality x Canon Creator Lab workshop with instruction from documentary filmmaker and director RJ Bruni(@rjbruni) as he instructs the second of two live online workshops focused on teaching the basics of filmmaking with an emphasis on Filming in Session I and Editing in Session II.

This second session will cover themes including:

  • Ingesting media and organizing your footage
  • Setting up your project file
  • Creating timelines for B roll cuts and your main edit
  • Crafting a story with your B roll
  • Choosing music and cutting a song down
  • Understanding and using various aspect ratios
  • Crafting sound with your raw audio to create flow between clips
  • Q&A Session

This workshop will include a combination of live teaching from RJ and Q&A portion.

About RJ:

RJ Bruni heads up Inmist Media House, a documentary production house based just outside Vancouver, BC. RJ’s commercial and personal work has involved commissions with a diverse group of clients ranging from tourism boards, sports and athletics, automotive brands like Land Rover, and frequent collaborations with outdoor focused creators like Alex Strohl of Strohl Works and others. His work focuses heavily on telling the stories of those whose lives engage with the world around them and connecting that to the range of human emotions and feelings that connect us all.
