What’s In My Bag: A Content Creator’s Kit For Logging 4,000 Miles In The Wilderness

 By Sony Alpha Universe

Elina Osborne (@elinasborne) is a visual storyteller rooted in telling tales of hiking and adventure. A creator on YouTube, she says of her works, “I make content in the form of documentary-style films. While I place focus on capturing video, photography has also always been something I love to capture – particularly when it involves people in new environments.” Osborne says to cover her bases, her gear could vary immensely, but for her YouTube Channel, she’s taken an approach to be as minimal as possible. “It’s usually trial by fire on a long-distance hike,” she says, “navigating what I can justify carrying, with what I think will capture the journey I’m trying to portray.” After some 4,000 miles on the trail and many sprained ankles later, she has settled on a Sony Alpha 7S III camera and a tight collection of Sony lenses to document her adventures in YouTube films and vlogs. She walks us through her gear in detail below.

 By MikeDrew

I guess it’s about time I stop whining about how dry it is.

Still, I found things to whine about. The foothills beaver ponds were low, the creeks were only just barely murky from runoff, my favourite little waterfall was almost completely dry.

Well, I ain’t whining now.

How To Use The Star Adventurer Star Tracker

 By Monika Deviat

A star tracker can be a handy tool for astrophotography, and I love using my Star Adventurer for widefield nightscapes. Due to the earth’s rotation, we see the stars move when we take long exposure shots of the night sky. How much they move across your frame depends on your focal length, camera resolution, and shutter speed. PhotoPills has a module called Spot Stars which can help you figure out how long you can shoot for to get accurate pinpoint stars or barely noticeable trails.

DRY – The Sloughs Are Nearly Gone And Summer Is Yet To Come

 By MikeDrew

There were twisters of alkali blowing across Deadhorse Lake.

They were spinning columns of white that rose from the clouds of alkali blowing from the dried-out north end of the big, shallow lake. Waves of white dust rolled like fog along the shoreline until they reached the water where the ripples tugged at the bottoms of dust clouds and made them twist. Vortices swirled and rose into the air.
