Canon RF 85mm F1.2 L USM Announced

  By Kaitlyn Kerr

Canon has announced a brand new RF 85mm F1.2 L USM lens for their full frame mirrorless lineup. The lens is the second lens ever from Canon to use Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR) Optics, which minimizes chromatic aberrations in large aperture lenses. This was first used in the EF 35mm F1.4L II lens.

Like the other four lenses of Canon’s RF lineup, the lens has a custom control ring (commonly used to control aperture). The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.85m, and is weather and dust resistant, in line with the L-series standard. The lens also uses an Air Sphere Coating (ASC) to reduce lens flare and ghosting issues. It is larger and heavier than its EF counterpart, but we expect to see better image quality and faster autofocus.

The Canon RF 85mm F1.2 L USM is expected to be available in June at a price of $3499.99.
