Canon Announces New 24-240mm Telephoto Zoom for RF System

  By Kaitlyn Kerr

Canon has announced the next lens in their full-frame mirrorless lineup: the RF 24-240mm F4-6.3 IS USM. This is the first telephoto zoom lens announced for the RF mount, and offers a 10x zoom in a relatively compact package.

The lens uses Nano-USM technology for fast and precise autofocus, as well as Dynamic Image Stabilization which Canon claims provides up to five stops of image stabilization. This allows for the user to capture longer shutter speeds or video with less shake when handholding. Minimum focus distance on the lens is 0.5m at 24mm and 0.78m at 250mm, and is constructed with 21 elements in 15 groups, as well as the standard 12-pin communication on Canon’s RF lenses.

The lens will also be available in a kit with the Canon EOS RP, a lightweight option that weighs close to the same amount as a Rebel camera with similar lens, yet in a full frame format.

The lens and kit are both expected to ship this September. They are available for preorder now, priced at $1199.99 and $2699.99 respectively.
