Calgary Portrait and Fashion Symposium Presented by the International Masters Academy
The Calgary Portrait and Fashion Symposium, presented by the International Masters Academy, runs from April 30 – May 2 in Calgary. Portrait workshops with master photographers Craig Minielly, Erich Caparas and Rafal Wegiel run on all three days and include sessions focusing on creative fashion photography, underwater portraits, and portraiture for business. The symposium also includes an industry panel, portfolio reviews by Calgary photographers Tula Edmunds and Joan Fox, and social events in the evenings at local bars and pubs.

Meet Erich Caparas MPC
They say the best way to learn is to teach. Erich has been learning since 1977 and as part of expanded learning does workshops in photography and post-processing. His workshops will show you how to use the fundamentals of photography and post-processing to get “the LOOK”. Anyone can Photoshop these days, however, by learning the fundamentals of Photoshop, you will be able to create your own style and workflow accordingly. It’s easy. Photoshop is very intuitive if you have the proper guidance and mindset. He will show you how easy it is!
Erich has been photographing since 1977 and has used Photoshop since 1990 before being sold to Adobe. In 1993, Adobe introduced layers in Photoshop where Erich was involved in doing testing and samples for Photoshop.
His work appeared in many digital and photographic magazines in the 90’s. He has won countless International Awards in conjunction with major digital expos. Major companies including National Geographic, Discovery Channel, and Smithsonian Institution have showcased his work. His editorials have appeared in almost 100 fashion magazines.
CRAIG MINIELLY MPC – ON LOCATION AND UNDERWATER PORTRAITS
Craig Minielly is an internationally accomplished photographer, and not just to one style. He has won numerous awards in over 15 Specialty Fields and has been published worldwide for the last 30 years.
With a passion for light styling and a flair for location opportunities, his image creations are a combination of diverse influences from the editorial world he started in, the commercial world he thrived in, and the portrait world he has always been a part of. As a pioneer within the digital revolution, Craig was, and still is, one of the influential forces in creating and developing workflow techniques and habits that are still being used by individuals, studios and corporations all over the globe.
Craig has a long line of credentials from Canada and the USA, earning his Certified Professional Photographer, his Master and Craftsman in Photographic Arts and his Master Photographer in Commercial. He’s also the recipient of Five Photographer of the Year Awards in Canada, the US, and Internationally.
Craig’s experience over the years has given him the opportunity to become a Nikon Ambassador and a Professional Photography Instructor where he is called upon internationally to host various workshops.
RAFAL WEGIEL – CREATING SUCCESSFUL HEADSHOTS AND BUSINESS PORTRAITS
Rafal Wegiel is an internationally-recognized fashion, portrait and headshot photographer.
In today’s social media world, your headshot or profile image is like your business card. Rafal focuses on creating the best representation of his clients while capturing their personality.
His work allows him to constantly explore the diversity of humans, inviting the viewers to see people’s inner beauty through the camera lens.
Rafal is also actively involved with Fashion Calgary with his wife Ania where they focus on long-term growth for emerging designers, boutiques, art galleries, beauty salons and restaurants bringing them into the spotlight as emerging, and established names in top-tier, and premier positions.
During his career, Rafal has provided photography coverage of a number of fashion and beauty shows in North America and Europe. His work has been published in a number of magazines and newspapers.
