Avenue Magazine's Calgarians We Love - Leah Hennel

Avenue Magazine put together a list of Calgarians We Love, and The Camera Store was thrilled to see that long-time friend, Leah Hennel, was on the list! Leah is an exceptionally accomplished photojournalist, who since the pandemic, has released her most recent book, Along The Western Front, photographed for AHS and documented the Tokyo Olympics! Her passion for photojournalism is undeniable, and we are so proud to see her on the list of Calgarians We Love because we love her too!

One of the main attributes Avenue Magazine highlighted about Leah is her outstanding ability to convey detailed stories with just a single image. One of her many intense, emotional-filled images that she has captured as an Alberta Health Services staff photographer went viral in the fall of 2020.

Leah Hennel’s viral photograph of an ICU doctor notifying a family that their loved one has died of COVID-19.

Since then, we had the opportunity to invite Leah to join us for a virtual presentation which took a deeper look at her experiences photographing the pandemic in our hospitals. You can watch Documentary Photography – Calgary During The COVID Pandemic with Leah Hennel on YouTube!

Avenue Magazine also pointed out that despite the pandemic, Leah was able to release her newest hardcover book, Along The Western Front, a stunning debut collection of photography focusing on contemporary cowboy culture and the modern ranching lifestyle throughout central and southern Alberta. Of course, this outstanding book is available on our website!

We are so proud of you, Leah and, cannot wait to see what other amazing things you will accomplish in 2022!
