Olympus Announces New 12-200mm Lens

 By Kaitlyn Kerr

Olympus has announced a brand new M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-200mm f3.5-6.3 lens for its micro-four-thirds system. In 35mm full frame equivalents, this is a 24-400mm lens, the highest magnification zoom available on an interchangeable lens (as of writing) at 16.6x, making this an incredibly versatile lens option for users of the micro-four-thirds system.

As is expected from the M.Zuiko lenses, the 12-200mm features splashproof and dustproof construction for shooting in adverse conditions. The lens is constructed as a compact and lightweight design, with 16 elements in 11 groups. The lens will focus fast and quietly due to the MSC (movie and stills compatible) inner focusing mechanism, ideal for both stills and video shooters. Minimum focussing distance is a mere 22cm at the wide end of the lens.

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-200mm f3.5-6.3 will be available this spring at a price of $1149.99.

Ricoh Announces New Pentax 11-18mm F2.8 and 35mm F2

 By Kaitlyn Kerr

Ricoh has announced two new Pentax lenses: the DA* 11-18mm F2.8ED DC AW and the HD FA 35mm F2.

The 11-18mm is the latest in their star lineup, and, after a bit of a delay follow it’s announcement in 2017, is now ready to ship next month. It offers a nice wide-angle option for the many APS-C cameras in the Pentax line-up, with a full frame equivalent of approximately 16-27mm focal length.

The 35mm F2, a compact full frame lens, is based on the same AL film lens. HD coatings reduce reflections, and SP coatings on the front element repel water for durability and shooting in adverse conditions. It features an aperture ring and distance scale despite its compact profile and weighs less than 200g.

Both lenses are available for preorder and are expected to begin shipping this spring.
