Panasonic Announces Development of S1H with 6K/24p Capability, S1 Upgrade Key

 By Kaitlyn Kerr

Panasonic has announced the development of another camera in their full frame mirrorless lineup: the Lumix S1H, designed specifically for film production and touting high video specs.

The camera records 6K/24p in 3:2 format, or 5.9K/30p in 16:9. It also enables full-frame 10-bit 4K or Cinema 4K at 60p, and as of writing, is the first full-frame interchangeable lens system digital camera in the world to do so. The S1H also has no recording limits in any format (provided the camera doesn’t overheat). The camera will also include V-log/V-Gamut, which will provide up to 14 stops of dynamic range.

BMFF: Youth Adventure Photo Workshop

 By Kaitlyn Kerr

Last year, the Banff Mountain Film & Book Festival launched a new Youth Adventure Photo Workshop that we, in partnership with Nikon, were proud to sponsor. This weekend workshop gave 13 youths the opportunity to learn the basics of photography, and shoot around the gorgeous Banff landscape under the instruction of photographer Jeremiah Marsh. At the end, each student chose one photo, which were then printed and exhibited at the Banff Public Library this past April.

5 Reasons To Go Mirrorless with Canon

 By Kaitlyn Kerr

Canon has entered the full-frame mirrorless game with their new EOS-R and EOS-RP. But with so many new cameras on the market, why should you go with these?

1. Really Freakin’ nice lenses – Canon’s new RF mount has introduced a new lens selection, and they’re all… Really Freakin’ nice. Like the gorgeously sharp 50mm f1.2, or the 28-70mm F2 lens, which is the fastest zoom of this focal range on the market today

5 Reasons to Print Your Work

 By Kaitlyn Kerr

The digital age has made photography so much more accessible, but so often all these digital images get lost and hidden away in the depths of a hard drive. But, printing your work has so many benefits that we forget about between the 0’s and 1’s.

1. Tangibility – There’s a reason that printing is often termed “photo finishing” – because having a tangible finished print is a whole different experience than just looking at a screen.

2. Visibility – You go on vacation with your digital camera, take 3000 photos, get home and download them, and you never look at them again. Sound familiar? Choosing a few favourite images and printing them simply means they get seen. Whether it’s framed above the fireplace or filed in a photo album, physical prints allow you and everyone around you to actually enjoy them.

Canon RF 85mm F1.2 L USM Announced

 By Kaitlyn Kerr

Canon has announced a brand new RF 85mm F1.2 L USM lens for their full frame mirrorless lineup. The lens is the second lens ever from Canon to use Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR) Optics, which minimizes chromatic aberrations in large aperture lenses. This was first used in the EF 35mm F1.4L II lens.

Like the other four lenses of Canon’s RF lineup, the lens has a custom control ring (commonly used to control aperture). The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.85m, and is weather and dust resistant, in line with the L-series standard. The lens also uses an Air Sphere Coating (ASC) to reduce lens flare and ghosting issues. It is larger and heavier than its EF counterpart, but we expect to see better image quality and faster autofocus.

The Canon RF 85mm F1.2 L USM is expected to be available in June at a price of $3499.99.
