2021 National Pictures of the Year Awards

The News Photographers Association of Canada (NPAC) have officially announced the 2021 National Pictures of the Year Awards! We want to congratulate all the winners on this achievement and their outstanding work! We also had the pleasure of sponsoring the Spot News category and are so proud to see each photographer’s incredible work!

Below are the winners and honourable mentions of the NPAC Spot News 2021 category!

First Place: Nick Lachance – Freelance for the Toronto Star

Honourable Mention: Jennifer Gauthier – Freelance for Reuters

Ryan Gemser leads a cow that was stranded in a flooded barn to safety in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Farmers raced to move trapped cows from the flood waters, using halters and small motorboats, such as canoes, dinghies and personal watercraft to coax the cattle to swim to safety and then loaded them onto larger trailers, on November 16, 2021.

Honourable Mention: HM- Evan Mitsui – CBC

A patient from Saskatchewan is transferred from an air ambulance to a waiting Peel Region ambulance, at Pearson airport, in Toronto, on Oct. 27, 2021. The Ontario Critical Care COVID Command Centre (OCCCC) is transporting COVID-19 patients to Ontario ICUs to alleviate strain on the Saskatchewan healthcare system.
