2019 Banff Mountain Book Competition Starts February 19th

  By Kaitlyn Kerr

As a key part of the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival, the Banff Mountain Book Competition celebrates mountain-themed literature in all forms, from narrative to guidebooks, poetry to photo books. The internationally-recognized competition awards over $16,000 in cash across different categories, including Mountain Image. Submissions open on February 19th, 2019.

Last year’s Mountain Image Book winner was Paul Zizka for his book, The Canadian Rockies: Rediscovered. The jury described it at “a visual masterpiece.” (Paul will also be joining us for an evening seminar in May for stories and images from his adventures. Tickets are $49.95.)

The grand prize will be announced as part of the festival on October 31st, 2019.

Other competitions for the Festival are running as well, including the Signature Image Submission (closing March 4th) and the Mountain Photo Essay competition, sponsored by The Camera Store. Submissions are due May 1st.

The Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival runs from October 26th to November 3rd, 2019. Tickets go on sale August 1st.
